Which way it goes

The A-62 continues north-east through Tordesillas to Valladolid and west to the Portuguese border; the A-66, the Silver Route, goes north to Zamora and south through Béjar towards Plasencia and Cáceres; the A-50 leads to Ávila. There is no direct motorway to Segovia, so the route goes via Ávila.

Zamora lies to the north along the A-66, the Silver Route, and is the provincial capital closest to Salamanca. It is a regular trip for family, work and, at Easter, to see its processions.

The city of Zamora, on the Duero, holds the hospital, the high-speed station, public offices and an old town full of Romanesque churches. It is where people from across the province come for appointments and errands, and the starting point for trains to Madrid and Galicia.

Tip: If you are staying in Salamanca's old town, give the exact address: traffic is restricted and the driver stops at the nearest access point.
