The A-62 continues north-east through Tordesillas to Valladolid and west to the Portuguese border; the A-66, the Silver Route, goes north to Zamora and south through Béjar towards Plasencia and Cáceres; the A-50 leads to Ávila. There is no direct motorway to Segovia, so the route goes via Ávila.

Cáceres lies to the south on the A-66, via Guijuelo, Béjar and Plasencia. Direct trains between Salamanca and Extremadura are scarce, so road is the practical way to make the trip in a day.

Tip: From Salamanca to Barajas allow more than two hours on the road: for an early flight, pickup is usually in the small hours.
